Berries are a superfood everyone needs to stock up on. When it came to selecting the ones to go into my granola, cranberries were an obvious choice along with blueberries. Cranberries helped me add both healthy nutrition and taste to my granola, giving it a unique flavour.
Some of the health benefits of cranberries are;
Good for Oral Hygiene
Cranberries are increasingly being recognized for their role in oral hygiene and care. Eating cranberries on a regular basis helps in preventing plaque formation, cavities, and initial level gum diseases.
Kidney and Bladder Problem
Cranberries have citric acid and other nutrients that help avoid bladder problems. They can also help prevent the formation of kidney stones.
Good for the Heart
Cranberries are essentially very good for your heart as they contain minerals and enzymes that can help lower bad cholesterol from lining and blocking your arteries. Heart problems are common due to lack of exercise and other unhealthy practices. Eating whole cranberries or drinking cranberry juice will help you maintain a healthy lifestyle and really boost your heart health.
According to a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, people who drink a glass of unsweetened cranberry juice a day have increased levels of HDL cholesterol i.e. good cholesterol by about 10%. The nutrients present in cranberries also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by preventing platelet build-up and reducing blood pressure.
Boosts Brain Power
The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds present in cranberries may improve memory and co-ordination according to medical research.
Helps with Weight Loss
Cranberry juice has an emulsifying effect on the fats deposited in the body, which in turn help with weight loss. Since it is loaded with fiber, it also helps one stay full for longer.
